Stuntman Killed During Music Video Shoot Instagrammed "Faulty Props" Before His Death
Film crew members performed CPR, but the 28-year-old died at the scene.
“Johann was tragically fatally injured when a prop gun was discharged as part of filming a scene in Bliss n Eso’s video clip,” the band’s management said in a statement released today.
“The gun was loaded with blanks, not live ammunition.”
In a video captioned “our Asian gangster props today!” Ofner panned across a case of guns and in the next update he filmed stacks of $50 and $100 notes and gambling chips.
Another Instagram story post was captioned “faulty props” and showed guns and one of the crew members pushing a fake knife into his own torso.
In the last update, captioned “gun scene for Bliss N Eso”, Ofner picked up a pistol and put it back on the table.
Ahead of filming, the Bliss N Eso put a call out on Facebook, asking for actors and extras to be involved with the music video for their song Friend Like You, including roles for “older males” with a “tough, serious, gangster look” and a “white male drug dealer”.
“The three of us are extremely upset and shaken up by this,” the status read.
Actress Margot Robbie’s brother Lockie posted an Instagram tribute in which he referred to the stuntman as a “best soul”.
On Monday afternoon police would not confirm exactly how Ofner was killed.
“A scene was being conducted in which the actors were using firearms,” detective inspector Tom Armitt said.
“Something has caused those injuries to that man’s chest but how that occurred is now part of our investigation.”
